Annual presentation evening at Malton School


PUPILS, parents, governors and other guests gathered at Malton School for the annual celebration evening.

As well as the presentation of awards to students from all year groups, the audience was treated to music and dance routines from previous events staged during the year.

Doug and Ellen Bentley sang Anything You Can Do from Easter’s production of Night On Broadway, Joanna Booker sang Hallelujah, from the talent show, Declan Gough, Bethanie Potts and Matthew Eldridge-Smith sang and acted songs from the summer musical Oliver! and Sam Davies sang Under The Bridge, accompanying himself on electric guitar.

Maggie Spencer, the winner of this year’s music prize, played a difficult and intricate euphonium solo. There were also two dance routines – one the winner of the summer talent show, the other by boys’ break-dance group, Anti Gravity.

Prizewinners were: Dave Pay senior sports trophy (boys), Edward Marwood. Girls, Annie Bentley. Bruce Rolls junior sports trophy, (boys), Will Spencer. Girls, Lottie Farrow. Young cricketer of the year (The J V Wilson Trophy), Alex Carrie. Best sports academy student, George Everitt. Community sports leader prize, Sam Davies. The English trophy, Amos Abrahams. The food technology prize, Lucy Harrison. The house trophy (most house points) Katie Benson. The George Hanson geography prize, Aya Abrahams. The history trophy (in memory of David Lloyd), Jake Hughes. Junior maths challenge best in school, James Simpson. Intermediate maths challenge best in school, Ian Mason. Senior maths challenge best in school, Sam Harrison, James Baker. The science prize (in memory of T A Williams), Amy Szuman. The music trophy, Maggie Spencer. Outstanding achievement at A-level, James Baker. Outstanding achievement at GCSE, Peter Grayson. Vocational student of the year, Carol McNally. The Davina Kirk trophy (most commendations in the year), Josh Pierson.
