THE DRIVER of a pick-up truck that crashed in Ryedale last week had suffered a heart attack, his family has said.
Geoff Carr, 63, was well-known in Slingsby, where he and his wife, Sue, had lived for 35 years.
He spent his working life as a driver of heavy plant equipment, building roads and major developments across the North of England.
Mr Carr, of Crabtree Gatehouse, Green Dyke Lane, Slingsby, had been towing a trailer with his red Nissan pick-up when his vehicle careered off the road and ploughed through a hedge near an old bridge at West Ness, near Malton, last Monday.
North Yorkshire Police initially launched a witness appeal, as they investigated the cause of the accident, but they concluded that Mr Carr had died of natural causes at the wheel.
Mrs Carr said: “I have had an unbelievable number of cards and messages of sympathy.
“He was always a hard-working man, a typical countryman and very family-orientated.”
She said her husband was well-known for his hobby of restoring vintage steam engines and old tractors.
Mr Carr’s funeral will take place at 11am tomorrow at the East Riding Crematorium, at Octon.
Mr Carr is also survived by two sons, Roger and Philip.
