Simply Red will play Dalby Forest, near Pickering, on June 26 2010 in the first concert to be confirmed by the Forestry Commission for next summer.

Tickets will go on sale at 9am on Friday on 01842 814612 or online at www.forestry.gov.uk/music for the opening night of a ninth year of outdoor shows in the 8,600 acres of North York Moors woodland.

Mick Hucknall’s chart-topping Manchester soul band will follow in the forest footsteps of Paul Weller, Status Quo, Pulp, The Beautiful South, James Morrison, M People in playing Dalby as part of the Forestry Commission’s Music in the Forest touring programme.

Capacity for the evening concert in a natural tree-lined auditorium has been set at 5,000, and organiser Paul Cody anticipates swift ticket sales. “Past performers at Dalby read like an who’s who of the British rock scene and Simply Red raise the bar once again,” he says. “They are superb live performers who combine the very best elements of pop and northern soul; it will be a terrific mid-summer night’s entertainment in the forest.”

Mick Hucknall’s band will perform seven woodland concerts nationwide next summer to raise funds for the Forestry Commission’s conservation and improvement work, having made their woodland debut earlier this year.

“As we had such fun performing a solo forest show at Westonbirt Arboretum, we decided it would be great to play all the forest concert venues around the country in 2010,” says Mick. “It’s a fantastic experience for a band to play in these unique settings.”

Simply Red first entered the singles chart with Money’s Too Tight To Mention in 1985 and have chalked up such hits as Holding Back The Years, The Right Thing, Ev’ry Time We Say Goodbye, If You Don’t Know Me By Now, Something Got Me Started, Stars, For Your Babies, Fairground, Angel, Say You Love Me and Sunrise. Their albums Picture Book, A New Flame, Stars, Blue and Home all sold profusely too.
