A RYEDALE PCSO is getting ready to take part in a glittering ceremony in London after she was named the best in North Yorkshire.

PCSO Tracy Brown has won the North Yorkshire Safer Neighbourhood PCSO award after being nominated by members of the community in Helmsley and Kirkbymoorside.

She will now represent North Yorkshire Police at the national awards in London on October 28.

This year six members of the Ryedale Safer Neighbourhood Team were nominated by the public.

PC Jane Jones also won the district award for her work in Malton, and joined Tracy in receiving an award presented by Chief Constable, Grahame Maxwell, at a gala dinner at the Cavendish Pavilion at Bolton Abbey.

Tracey, who lives in Hovingham with her husband David, and her children Adam, 17, and Amy, 15, previously worked as an optician’s receptionist.

She said receiving the award made her feel as though she had made a difference to her patch, which stretches from the top of Sutton Bank to the top of Wrelton Bank, covering Kirkbymoorside, Helmsley, Ampleforth, Hawnby and Oswaldkirk.

PC Jones said: “Working with the people of Malton and helping them to solve their problems is my dream job. It is so rewarding and I feel very honoured that they have recognised that and put me forward for this award.”

Janet Waggott, chairman of the Safer Ryedale Partnership, said: “I am delighted that Tracy and Jane have been singled out for this award for 2009 and thrilled that Tracy will represent North Yorkshire in London.

“It is wonderful to have the opportunity to publicly recognise the hard work and dedication of the individuals who make up the Safer Ryedale team.”

Inspector Tim Hutchinson, head of Ryedale Police, said: “These awards for Tracy and Jane show just how much they are appreciated by their communities.

“If making a difference to the community was an Olympic event, these two would both be gold medal winners.

“For a small team like Ryedale to be recognised in this way for the second year running is amazing.

“It just shows the depth and quality of the people we have working out there in the community.”
