THOUSANDS of people flocked to a Christmas exhibition at a stately home last weekend.

More than 3,000 people attended the first weekend of Castle Howard: The Family Home at Christmas, which opened on Friday.

Castle Howard’s Eleanor Course said: “We were absolutely delighted by the number of people who came to visit us.

“We have been planning this since last January, so it is great to see all our hard work pay off.

“We had lots of people commenting on our two 16-foot-high Christmas trees, one in the Long Gallery, and the other in the Great Hall.

“With all the snow we’ve been having, the grounds at Castle Howard are just beautiful, and we hope many more people will be tempted to come and have a look around.”

Castle Howard is open for Christmas daily until December 21, and features a new exhibition, Brideshead Restored, which offers a behind-the-scenes look at how Castle Howard was used as the set of the new film adaptation of Brideshead Revisited.
