LORD Lichfield was one of the most respected photographers of the 20th century and an exhibition of his work, entitled Patrick Lichfield – A Retrospective, has been showing at Nunnington Hall near Helmsley.

However, for those who have not yet had the opportunity to see it, the exhibition has been extended during weekends until December 7.

Lichfield started his career in photography in 1962 as a photographer’s assistant and went on to capture portraits of many of the celebrities of the era, including actors, sportsmen and musicians such as Joanna Lumley, Henry Cooper, Oliver Reed and Mick Jagger.

His most famous images, though, are no doubt those of the royal wedding of the Prince and Princess of Wales in 1981, for which he was the official photographer. He was also a pioneer of digital photography, a subject in which he took a keen interest before his untimely death in 2005.

As well as the exhibition, visitors can visit many of Nunnington Hall’s rooms, some being displayed slightly differently to how they might normally be seen.

In addition, the hall’s tearooms will be serving seasonal fare and the shop is open, offering Christmas shopping inspiration.

Nunnington Hall’s property manager Simon Lee said: “Our winter weekends can be a great time to visit the Hall. We are delighted to be able to extend the Lichfield exhibition – it has been really popular and thousands of people have taken the opportunity to see it while it has been here in the north.”
