RUNNERS took to the streets to raise money for their village hall.

The group of 144 runners raised more than £1,400 by taking part in a 10k fun run, which took place on Saturday in Thornton-le-Clay.

The money will be spent on heating and painting the wooden village hall, as well as moving an oil store away from the building to keep in line with new fire safety regulations.

Race director Richard Harrison said: “The village hall provides lunches for the local school and a venue for various events and classes.

“It is a self supporting organisation, so it is great that we have been able to raise this much money.

“It is the first time we have held a fun run, and I am pleased to say it was a fantastic success.

“I’d like to thank everyone who ran, in particular Easingwold Running Club and the North Yorkshire Police Triathlon Club, and also everyone who turned out to support the runners.”

All the runners finished the race within 90 minutes, with Steven Body coming first with a time of 33 minutes and 28 seconds.

Trophies were donated by the Sydney Smith Association, and Malton Motors sponsored the event.
