A CYCLIST who was rescued by a Good Samaritan couple has finally tracked down his mystery helpers.

Bruce Quarton was left with horrific facial injuries after a deer knocked him from his mountain bike while he was travelling down Hovingham Bank about a month ago.

The 33-year-old was left needing extensive surgery and never got chance to thank the teenage couple who came to his aid.

Following an appeal in last week’s Gazette & Herald, Carey Simms, from Helmsley, and her boyfriend, Ben Colville, from Selby, have contacted the farmer who has thanked the couple for their help.

Hotel worker Carey, 19, said: “We were driving to York to the cinema when we saw this man in the middle of the road who looked like he had a hole in his face.

“To be honest I thought he was going to die he looked that bad. Some people passed us and never stopped. We were really worried about him and we are just pleased he has recovered.”

After stopping to help the farmer, who lives at Moorhouse Farm, near Hovingham, they continued their journey to the cinema.

She added: “It was a bit silly but we watched a zombie film and we felt ill for days afterwards.”

Now Bruce has offered his heartfelt thanks to the pair and presented them with some produce from his family’s farm shop.

He added: “I don’t know what I would have done without their help. I’m so grateful for their kindness.”
