CARBON emissions from council buildings and vehicles have reduced slightly over the past year, according to new figures.

Over the last 12 months, consumption of electricity, gas and propane have gone down fractionally while the use of bio fuel has increased.

An increase in the use of diesel has been blamed on roadside recycling in every town and village in the district.

Coun John Clark requested the details as part of his campaign to drive down energy use, which is thought to produce climate-changing greenhouse gases.

He said: “Ryedale District Council should be congratulated on these figures although more could be done on diesel.”
