A VILLAGER who has been the “eyes and ears” of his local community for the past 21 years has stepped down from his crime fighting post.

For the two decades, Ken Tabor, has organised the local Neighbourhood Watch Scheme in Kirby Misperton after founding the initiative in 1987.

Over that time his newsletters and other information have been used by police officers in the course of their investigations.

Ken said: “I have enjoyed being involved in Neighbourhood Watch together with producing the village newsletter. One of the key milestones was the introduction of the ringmaster system in 1995, which streamlined the way that telephone messages were sent out by police.”

The reigns have now been taken up by fellow resident, Peter Bloom and the job of writing the local newsletter has gone to Peter’s daughter, Fern.

Paying tribute to his hard work, Ryedale’s Police Commander, Inspector Tim Hutchinson, said: “Ken has made a fantastic contribution over the years to his local community. The newsletter he has produced every month without fail is informative and entertaining and has proved to be a very effective way of getting information passed to police and local residents. This makes an all important difference not only to residents but to the police in the course of our investigations.”
