A PUPIL from Malton School was in the hot seat after winning a national cookery competition – she had to prove her skills by rustling up a meal for Naked Chef Jamie Oliver! Chloë Potts served up Oakcliffe Pheasant with Ampleforth Cider as well as a dessert of Yorkshire Rhubarb Dream for Jamie Oliver, when the schoolgirl was named secondary school winner of the Active Kids Get Cooking challenge.
The Active Kids Get Cooking challenge, a partnership between Sainsbury’s, the British Nutrition Foundation and The Design and Technology Association, is a competition to find the most inventive and nutritious dishes created by schoolchildren throughout the UK. Chloë Potts, along with teacher Sue Leach, travelled to the Sainsbury’s Store Support Centre in London for a day where the judging and awards were being held.
As well as a trip to London and a delicious lunch, delighted Chloë received a cheque for £500 for her school and a goody bag.
Pupils from Malton School had entered the competition, which challenges school children from around the country to create a two-course meal that can be shared with their friends, using local ingredients.
Jamie Oliver said: “A big well done to all the pupils at Malton School on the fantastic meal they served up. Putting together a nutritious, tasty, locally-sourced meal is a great skill to have, which these pupils have demonstrated whilst having a brilliant time.”
Chloë said: “I can’t believe I got to meet Jamie Oliver. Having him taste my meal was fantastic. I will definitely continue cooking at home and at school and try making new healthy, tasty, local recipes.”
