A BECKENHAM team pulled its way to victory in a tug of war contest.

The annual contest, organised by the Darent Valley Round Table, aims to bring people together at a fun social event to compete for the Yankers Trophy.

Nine teams attended the event from Beckenham, Bexley, Catford and Lewisham, Darent Valley, Dartford, Farnborough, Sidcup, Welling and Westerham.

The Round Table contributes to several charities in the local area by organising a series of fun social and sporting events such as go-karting and archery.

In the tug of war contest, last year's winners, Westerham, were surprisingly beaten by Beckenham in a tense final. Welling, which fielded two teams, managed to come third.
