BUDGET supermarket chain Lidl is planning to open two new stores in Ryedale.
The European firm hopes to build outlets in Pickering and Norton as part of expansion programme throughout the country.
Applications will be submitted to Ryedale District Council within the next couple of weeks to develop the former CPL coal depot on Vivis Lane and Robson's Garage in Norton.
It is expected the stores will generate up to 30 new jobs in the two market towns.
Company officials will host an open day in Pickering on Monday at the WRVS centre on Hungate from 12pm until 6pm for residents to view the plans for the disused site.
On Thursday, members of the public are invited to St Peter's Church in Norton from noon until 6pm to talk with company bosses about the proposals.
A company spokesman said: "The events are to allow traders and residents the opportunity to discuss any aspect of the proposed development."
