School days remembered

3:15pm Thursday 14th February 2008

THEY'RE said to be the best years of your life, and former pupils will be able to relive them with a book set to be published this year about Malton School.

Deputy head teacher Stephen Fearnley is currently writing The History of Malton School 1547-2006, fully illustrated with photographs and pictures from the school's long past.

The book is due to be published in September, and Mr Fearnley is still appealling for anyone with photographs or information about years gone by to get in touch.

He said: "I would be very interested to receive any memories from readers who attended Malton School in the past - County Modern, Grammar, or National School. In particular I would be delighted to receive or borrow any photos not already on the Maltonians website (at www. maltonschool. org). For example, from minutes I have found that official school photos were taken in 1983-4, yet we have none in school. And issues one and five of The New Maltonian (1982-4) are missing from our archive."

From its founding in 1547 in the grounds of Old Malton Priory, to the very first day at Malton County Modern School in 1958, the book takes you on a fascinating journey.

Some of the photographs in the book come from our very own archives, and we had a dig around ourselves to find pictures from the school old and new. So sit back and enjoy the memories. . .
