SESSAY took advantage of no play being possible in the game between Pickering and leaders Folkton & Flixton to return to the top of the Hunters York & District Senior Cricket League premier division.

Despite Whitkirk’s Michael O’Brien (6-89) taking six wickets the new league leaders reached 242-9.

Matthew Till scored 38 for the visitors before Joseph Watson (54) put on 85 with Craig Ross (35) and a further 51 alongside Tim Hall (46).

The only time the home side looked likely to challenge the target came during a partnership of 71 between Sean Pickles (47) and Jack Wood (52) - the only batters to reach double figures, Liam Carver (3-36) and Tim Hall (3-35) helping bowl them out for 164.

Beverley Town went third with an eight-wicket win over Sheriff Hutton Bridge, Joe Dale unbeaten on 40.

Jamie Roe took 6-26 as the visitors were bowled out for 130. Matthew Maltby (43) struggled to find support after Tatenda Shuttleworth-Richardson (20) departed with Malt on 57-3 as the first of Roe’s wickets.

The hosts' top order produced a solid performance, openers Olly Grantham (22) and Ben Hatfield (31) putting on 51 before Dale and Gregory Whyley (25) wrapped up Beverley Town's third straight win.

A sixth-wicket stand of 102 between York pair Nick Kay (42no) and Tom Bates (58no) secured a seemingly unlikely home victory over Hull Zingari.

Kay (4-65) took three of the first four wickets to fall, but Tom Douglas (73) and Faraz Dar (32) helped the visitors to 256-8.

York made a strong start through Neil Laidlaw (42) and Iain Jarvis (38) but three wickets from James Dunning (3-62) left the game hanging in the balance at 156-5 when Bates joined Kay at the crease. A third consecutive win moves York up to fourth while Hull drop into the relegation places.

Welton climbed out of the bottom three with a surprise 10-run victory over Malton & Old Malton.

Matthew Wilkinson (54) and Daniel Giddings (57) helped Welton reach 204-7, the latter one of four wickets for Dean Coote (4-50).

The visitors made a good start, Michael Linsley (31) helping them to 71 before the first wicket fell but from there they slumped to 90-5, Ollie Thane with 3-26.

Ryan Gaughan gave his side a chance with 34, and 43 extras did little to help the hosts' cause but they held their nerve.

Bottom side Goole Town were bowled out for under 100 for the seventh time in 2021, this latest time for just 44 at Studley Royal.

Matthew Coad took 5-10 from 14 overs, 10 of which were maidens. Leo Wilson took 3-6 from six overs.

None of the batters reached double figures in the promoted side's lowest total of a tough season.

Studley Royal, also battling the drop, reached the target in 12.2 overs.
