MALTON & Old Malton closed the margin on their promotion rivals in the Hunters York & District Senior Cricket League premier division with an eight-wicket win at Studley Royal.

Michael Linsley (7-36) produced an outstanding all-round performance, becoming only the third bowler this season to claim seven wickets in an innings - and then followed it up with a third consecutive half-century.

Jonny Harding top scored for the home side with 47 out of a total of 145, though this was quickly put into perspective by the visitors' opening stand of 109.

Linsley and Shaun Harland (41) set the tone and the target was reached inside 28 overs.

Play was abandoned between the division’s top two, Sessay and Folkton & Flixton, before 25 overs were up.

Hosts Sessay were on 95-5, Connor Stephenson (4-26) having taken the first four wickets to fall although Tim Hall remained unbeaten on 24.

Beverley Town’s game against York was cancelled due to Covid.

The top of the table remains largely unchanged.

It was a good day for the bottom three. Guy Richardson (104) scored a century for basement side Goole Town (182) as they beat an in-form Whitkirk by 54 runs.

He came in with the side on 12-3 and shepherded them towards a final total of 182 all out, which included a partnership of 83 with next highest scorer Louis Sugden (21), the only other batter to reach double figures.

Both were dismissed by Richard Malthouse (4-29).

Skipper Simon Webb top scored for the visitors who slumped from 88-2 to 128 all out, Kevin Murphy with 4-28, Sugden 2-22 and Ben Lamb 2-25.

Hull Zingari (188) recorded their first win of the season, beating visitors Pickering by 56 runs.

Jack Storey (81) and Laurence Wilkinson (50) shared an second-wicket stand of 89 before George Baldwin (5-26) brought the visitors back into the contest.

Baldwin (26) and Shaun Smith (27) were both dismissed by Gavin Wilkinson (3-26), and a tight bowling performance was rounded off by Jason Hellwig (3-8), who picked up the last three wickets cheaply to keep alive the side's hopes of avoiding relegation.

Sheriff Hutton Bridge boosted their survival hopes winning at home to Welton by 50 runs.

Matthew Wilkinson's 3-19 left the home side in trouble on 69-5 but teenager Will Warren came to the rescue with 45, and the addition of 35 extras helped boost the total to 164 before they were bowled out.

The youngster also played a key role with the ball, picking the key wicket of Matthew Wilkinson (30) who finished as his side's top scorer, while Nadeem Shefta's 3-36 helped ensure the result was never really in doubt.
