FIRE services have been called to two balers on fire over the weekend.

On Saturday, just after midday, crews from Pickering, Kirkbymoorside and volunteers from Goathland dealt with a baler on fire near Levisham.

The baler was alight in a field of cut straw approximately 100m by 15m.

The firemen extinguished the fire using hosereel jets, a high pressure lance and beaters, but the baler was totally destroyed by the fire.

The second baler callout was yesterday, Sunday, at 3.35pm.

Helmsley and Kirkbymoorside crews went to the scene of a baler on fire in a field at Skiplam, Kirkbymoorside.

North Yorkshire Fire & Rescue said the baler suffered "severe" fire damage. It is believed the fire was caused by an overheated bearing in the machine.

Seperately, fire crews from Malton were called to the A64 at Golden Hill outside Malton on Friday evening at 8.43pm.

A car had caught fire, with the cause believed to be an electrical fault.

The car had been towing a trailer carrying beehives which had been detached from the car when the fire was discovered. No beehives were affected.
