TWO kittens have been named after the police officers who rescued them.

PCs Roxy Garrett and Lewis Calboutin were on patrol in Benwell when they were called to a neighbourly dispute. During their investigation they found six, two-week old kittens wrapped in a urine-soaked cardigan and dumped in a bucket in a garden.

PCs Garrett and Calboutin took them to Westgate Ark Cat Homing Centre where they were cleaned, fed and nursed back to health.

But the officers did not stop there and returned to the address to find the kittens’ mother, who the owners no longer wanted. She was reunited with her kittens and now volunteers have shown their thanks to police – by naming two of the family after the hero cops.

PC Garrett said: “The shelter’s volunteers have done an amazing job and we’re sad to say goodbye to the litter – especially Lewis and Roxy.”
