A SEAL pup has been rescued after it was discovered in distress on a beach.

The juvenile common seal was spotted by a couple as they walked along South Gare at Redcar on Thursday night.

Dr Jonathan Allinson, who found the seal pup, said: "We decided to call the British Divers Marine Life Rescue and they immediately sent out a rescue party.

"After finding the young seal cub which was undernourished and underweight, they took her into rehab to feed her under supervision by the experts.

"These cubs are left to fend for themselves by their mother after three weeks so can become dehydrated and underweight if nature conspires against them."
