ILKLEY orienteer Tony Thornley won his age group at the Lakes international Five-Day event last week.
The races attracted over 2,000 entries, with 75 in Tony’s M70 class. With the four best runs out of five to count, Tony scored two firsts, a second and a fourth to beat World Masters champion Janne Brunstedt from Denmark and British champion Peter Gorvett.
The races were held on open fell and in woodland across the Lake District, with torrential rain making map reading very difficult on the first and last days.
Other Airienteers gaining top three places were George Stevens on M21 short and Jo Thornley, Tony’s wife, on W70 short.
