MEMBERS of Ryedale District Council's planning committee have rejected an application to build a petrol station and M&S shop on Welham Road in Norton.
Members unanimously voted to reject the controversial application - in line with their planning officers' recommendation.
The reason for refusal was that planning officers deemed the Malton livestock market site as preferable for the development due partly to flood risk considerations.
Jason Lowes of the application agents Rapleys said that his clients BP would not be seeking to build on the livestock market site - "or any other site in Malton".
