THIS year’s Ryedale Show saw record entries in the fur and feather section.

Steward Adam Collier said there had been more than 600 entries.

“This is definitely the biggest number of entries we have seen with more than 100 guinea pigs and 130 rabbits, which is a record,” he said.

“There has also been a good entry in the poultry section.”

Adam, who is involved in many of the local agricultural shows as a judge, steward and secretary, said entries had come from a wide area, including County Durham and Lincolnshire.

“Ryedale Show is one of the best shows in the country and is always so well organised,” he said.

“As a result it always draws in a good crowd of people who love to come every year.”

Carol Welch, who has been secretary of the dog section for more than 25 years, said they had over 40 more entries this year from as far afield as Guernsey and the Isle of Man.

“It is certainly up one of the highest we have had with 347 dogs,” she said. “Ryedale is a great show which people enjoy coming to year after year.”

In the Yorkshire Countrywomen’s Section (YCA), secretary Carol Gamble, said entries were up on last year, particularly in the handicraft section.

She said: “Last year we were down on entries so we put a call out and it seems to have worked.

“We also have a good show of flowers and some marvellous handicrafts. It has been a really good show.”
