ON Friday thousands of fans, including myself and my partner, were deeply disappointed at the non-appearance of Tom Jones at the racecourse.

The reason given for this was apparently that the singer’s helicopter couldn’t fly due to the stormy weather, which had been forecast all week.

Why could he not have planned to have been chauffeured to York from London in a luxurious Bentley, to which I’m sure he has access? He could have been here in less than four hours.

My second complaint is that the organisers at the course only informed the public of the cancellation after the last race, about 15 minutes before the show was due to start. They must have known at least hours before.

Perhaps they didn’t want the spending public to leave early. This is a dreadful way to treat customers, most of whom went specifically to see the Welshman.

On principle, I will not try to see him again. Who knows what excuse he could give for letting the public down again needlessly?

Jockey’s York dash leaves Tom in shade

FURTHER to all you disappointed Tom Jones fans at York Racecourse on Friday evening - a disappointment due apparently to travel disruptions caused by the weather getting from London to York - it must be pointed out that the jockey Oisin Murphy rode in a race at Ascot (Berkshire) at 4.45pm and then rode the winner in the 7.30pm race at York Racecourse.

I will let all you fans draw your own conclusions to Mr Jones’ commitment for this appointment, but always remember that old adage “where there is a will there is always a way”. Poor show Tom.
