JAMES FORD insists complacency will not be an issue for his high-flying York City Knights tomorrow as they host Coventry Bears.

The Knights joined Bradford Bulls at the top of the League One table last week with their rousing victory at Odsal, and a similar performance at Bootham Crescent would surely blow away the Bears.

However, Ford says his much-changed line-up can take nothing for granted against a side who themselves have won their last four games, including turning over Keighley Cougars. Lowly London Skolars and Hemel were also seen off while whipping boys West Wales were thrashed 64-6 on Wednesday night - threequarters Hayden Freeman and Kameron Pearce-Paul both notching hat-tricks.

Coventry also gave York a first-half fright in the reverse fixture at Butts Park Arena in May, being level at 18-18 before the Knights ran away with the second half.

Asked if there was a danger of complacency, especially with the Bears playing their third game in eight days, Ford said: “Absolutely not.

“People have an opportunity to stay in the side, which will be decided by how they perform.

“Coventry have won four from four, they were 18-all with us at their place, they were within touching distance against Bradford (in the first half), and they’ve beaten Keighley recently.

“We know we have to perform to a very high level and, if we don’t, Coventry are capable of turning us over, like they have done other teams.”

Coventry will be without veteran Welsh half-back Paul Emanuelli, with Kent-born student Liam Rice-Wilson coming in, while Cameron Stewart, a sub against West Wales, is also missing.

The other 15 who were on duty in midweek stay in the squad, with Ash Bateman, Jacob Ogden and Peter Ryan also added to the 19.
