WITH the summer holidays finally arriving with us, it is always a little quieter at the beginning, as a lot of families escape from the day-to-day routine for their holidays. However, we have a great selection of films as usual.

Needless to say the most popular film we have is the one we have been waiting for, since 2008, Mamma Mia 2.

Even Dame Julie (Walters) said she thought it would be awful, but now says it is probably even better than the original.

Well I have not wanted to take up a paying seat, in true cinema owner style, so have not seen it as yet, but I intend to sneak in as soon as possible.

The Incredibles 2 has also been really popular, though 3D so far less so, and it is strange that there are two second films

which have taken so long to arrive – The Incredibles (original) came out 14 years ago - which have really caught the imagination.

Skyscraper has brought quite a few people in – a bit of a format as Dwayne Johnson does.

He gets into trouble and then is the only one to get out of it and save the many around him.

As long as you don’t have too great an expectation it has some entertaining action and effects.

Films we are showing from Friday, July 27 are:

Mamma Mia! Here We Go Again (PG and number one in the top 10 - no surprise there) – what more to say than “here we are again!”.

The Incredibles 2 (PG and number two in the top 10) – impossible missions for Elastigirl and Bob, the dad, stays at home with the baby who also has super powers. Great fun for all.

Mission Impossible: Fallout (12A) – opens on Thursday after publication so more on this one later. I must say it looks good.

Hotel Transylvania 3 (PG and on its release date) – Count Dracula goes on holiday with his family and well he becomes romantically entangled.

Ant Man And The Wasp (12A and on its release date of Thursday, August 2 – yes, August) – in this superhero film Ant Man fights a battle alongside The Wasp which despite the small size is made credible in the film I think. I really enjoyed the first film and the cast is excellent in Ant Man And The Wasp. Looks fab.

Coming soon

Christopher Robin (PG - TBC) – a charming looking real life and animation film where the overworked and rather less joyful Christopher Robin (played by Ewan McGregor) meets up with Winnie the Pooh for some realignment of his life. This ‘funtastic’ looking film joins us on August 17. Can’t wait.

Stage shows

Our next presentation is Saul from Glyndebourne on July 26 and amazingly we still have some really good seats available even now. After that we have Andre Rieu on Saturday, July 28 and Sunday, July 29, with some good seats still available (better on the Sunday performance).
