A FIELD of 30 contested the York & District Amalgamation of Anglers Open fished above York earlier this month.

Carl Stevenson came first with a weight of 26lb 8oz, more than double that of his nearest rival, Steve Raper, who had 11lb 14oz.

R Bonas was third with 9lb 12oz, and among the fish caught was a Wells Catfish weighing around 2lb.

Details of last weekend's YDDA open will follow.

The latest York DAA-sponsored junior match was fished at Laybourne (Browns) last week.

On a warm, overcast day, Archie Bond took the honours with 9lb 8.5oz of bream and smaller fish, caught on groundbait feeder.

Zach McCracken was second with 6lb 7.5oz again of bream and some smaller fish, caught on a variety of methods.

In third was Jack Bond with a mixed catch of 5lb 15oz.

Archie Bond made it a double by winning the overall trophy for the combined weights of those who fished both YDAA junior matches, with a total of 10lb 11.5oz.

McCracken was second and Joel Newton third.

Meanwhile, a full house fished the fifth YAP Casting for Cancer Charity match at Overton, with Russ Turpin leading the way with 9lb 6oz.

Brian Harrison was second with 8lb while Darel Taylor was third with 6lb 8oz.

The bream are still not showing in great numbers above York and, with river levels meaning slow flows, big catches are becoming harder to find as the fish move around less.

Several fisheries are now locked to provide extra security. The next fishery to be locked will be Laybourne Lakes with locks likely to be installed early in August. The code for the lock can be found on membership cards.
