Man of the match: Sam Scott – the second-row gave probably his best, biggest, toughest show of the season in a wonderful all-round team show. But this was another of those games where any number of players could have got this accolade. Ben Cockayne, Andy Ellis, Joe Batchelor, Graeme Horne to name just a few – the list goes on.

Referee: Matt Rossleigh (London) – the Aussie had no choice with a number of penalty decisions awarded against York but was seemingly swayed by home pressure with a number of others, hence such a heavy penalty count.

Penalty count: 17-6

Half-time: 4-24

Weather: very warm again.

Attendance: 6,500 approx

Moment of the match: Firstly, a ridiculous piece of magic from Bulls left-winger Ethan Ryan – catching and touching down a steepling Dane Chisholm kick in the corner - was so good even York fans had to applaud open-mouthed. But that was topped for the travelling army when Jake Butler-Fleming won the next aerial challenge in that corner and slipped the ball to Judah Mazive, who sprinted 80 metres for a stunning try which stemmed the second-half home tide and put the Knights two scores up with 10 minutes left.

Gaffe of the match: the Knights conceded too many penalties, some harshly given, some not so harshly given, and this helped to pile the pressure on. For Bradford, it was Dalton Grant’s late miss in the corner, just prior to his last-minute try that gave Dane Chisholm the chance to equalise with the conversion.

Gamebreaker: the last two kicks of the match by Dane Chisholm. He missed the touchline conversion which would have levelled the scores in the last minute. Then he went for broke in the last play of the match in his own half, but his little chip over the defensive line was well read by York’s defence, not least old head Andy Ellis who coolly took possession, before the final hooter signalled celebrations.

Match rating: Wow. Just wow. This was yet another League One stonker, another thriller, another nail-biter, and another two-point match – the sixth of what is turning out to be a memorable season for York City Knights. This victory – the fifth in such two-point games – also came away to mighty odds-on title favourites Bradford Bulls. The championship race is now well and truly on. Who’d’ve thunk it.
