AN anti-fracking protester who did not attend her trial has appeared before York Magistrates Court and received her punishment.

Barbara Anne Cookson, 67, of Lawrence Grove, Liverpool, was found guilty last month in her absence of two charges of obstructing Habton Road, near Kirby Misperton, in September.

District judge Adrian Lower issued a warrant with bail for her to attend court on July 10, which she did after police served the warrant on her. He gave her a 12-month conditional discharge and ordered her to pay £85 prosecution costs and a £20 statutory surcharge.

On Monday, the separate trial of another anti-fracking campaigner was adjourned due to the district judge not having had a chance to read documents submitted by the defendant.

Heather Stroud, 68, of Gilling East, appeared at York Magistrates’ court charged with obstructing a highway. She had handed in a file of documents to the court on June 29, but district judge Adrian Lower said they had only been showed to him that morning. He said: “It is with great reluctance that I adjourn this trial.” He adjourned the trial until August 30. Ms Stroud was granted unconditional bail.
