THE sun shone for the annual Slingsby Duck Race at the weekend.

Organised by the Friends of Slingsby School (FOSS), the event is organised as part of a family fun day to boost school funds.

A spokesman for FOSS, said: “It was a glorious day with the sun shining brightly and not a cloud in the sky.

“The duck race, in support of the Slingsby Primary School, is now in its 27th year, had a wonderful turn-out, with the support of the Malton fire station and all the family fun you’d expect at a country fete.”

Attractions included bouncing castles, gladiator duels, barbecue, tombola and face painting, which kept everyone entertained in the lead up to the main event at 2pm.

The spokesman added: “Despite the lack of rain, the Slingsby Beck didn’t disappoint with the following with prizes going to the first three ducks.

“Additional prizes were given for Beat the Goalie whose winner Sam Staley won a signed Middlesbrough FC football, a trophy for the most sold ducks and a prize for last place.

“A big thank you to all those generous and supportive people who sold a whopping 1,010 ducks in total. A quacking good time for all.”

The winning ducks were: 1st: J Walters, who won £50; 2nd: A Hindby, who received £25; 3rd: L Proud, £10; and last: T Ebbs.
