A VILLAGE charity has recruited volunteers to spruce up their local area.

Six volunteers of the Marton Mornings Jubilee Charity rubbed down railings on the bridge over the River Seven and gave them a fresh coat of paint.

The Marton Mornings Jubilee Charity is a charitable trust established in 2002 following an event to celebrate the Queen's Golden Jubilee, with the aim of improving conditions of life of the people Marton and the surrounding area.

Veronica Piercy, secretary of the charity, said that since its inception it has raised funds to ensure a footpath to the village hall, provided dog waste bins, arranged new signs at the entrances to the village, repaired the chapel clock, provided a new litter bin, raised funds for a defibrillator housed in the former telephone box and much more besides.
