A PUPIL at Ampleforth College has been selected to join a national equestrian squad.
Issy Saxby, a Year 10 student at the school, has been selected to join the British Eventing Under 18s Development Squad.
The Development Squad is made up of young juniors who have been identified as “having future potential” in the eventing world.
A spokesman for Ampleforth College said that Issy has been asked to compete internationally this summer.
She will travel with other successful members of the team to Millstreet International Horse Trials in Ireland in August.
The purpose of this competition is to give the riders international experience, which will be invaluable to them in their future Eventing careers.
Issy joined Ampleforth College in September 2017.
Alongside her GCSE studies, she also regularly represents the college on the Schools NSEA (National Schools’ Equestrian Association) team and, away from the saddle, in the U15A hockey team.
The Millstreet International Horse Trials will take place from August 22 to 26 in Millstreet Town in County Cork.
Ampleforth College has also recently submitted plans for phase one of its equestrian
centre, which will see the addition of an arena in the valley grounds providing further opportunities for students to take part in equestrianism on site.
Equestrianism is one of more than 50 co-curricular events available for boys and girls at the college and provides an opportunity for students to take part in riding and polo lessons.
Those who live locally with
their own horses can also represent the college in dressage, showjumping and eventing competitions.
