HAMPSHIRE have gained a first-innings lead of 93 during the third day against Yorkshire at the Ageas Bowl.

The White Rose have work to do with the bat if they are to avoid a second successive Specsavers County Championship defeat after losing to Surrey last month.

Hampshire advanced from 311-7 at lunch to 443 all out, signalling an early tea.

Gareth Berg posted an unbeaten 83, while Jack Brooks finished with 5-124.

Berg shared 74 for the eighth wicket with Kyle Abbott (35) and 58 for the ninth with their other South African seamer Dale Steyn (23).

Adam Lyth, Steve Patterson and Brooks claimed an afternoon wicket apiece. There are 36 overs remaining in the day.
