THE Daisy Garden Centre, Kirkbymoorside will be hosting a weekend pop-in and chat event in aid of the Pickering Hedgehog Rescue on June 16 and 17.

Deryn Hagemann, who set up the rescue last year from her home in Pickering, will be on hand to offer advice and information for anyone wanting to learn more about these British mammals and about the work of the rescue.

She said: “I have been overwhelmed by the fantastic support for the rescue. I love helping the hedgehogs, some have to stay for months before they are ready for release. Come along to meet us and find out how you can make your garden more hedgehog friendly”.

Alongside her will be Lesley Hughes, who has been fundraising through sales of her magnets, which are on sale at Moorside Stores, Eastgate Vets, Moorside Pets as well as Daisy Garden Centre.

She said: “I heard about Deryn and her efforts to raise funds, so I offered to make these little magnets, something I’ve done for Marie Curie in the past. To date we’ve raised over £390 for the building works in the hedgehog ward. We are also thrilled that the Kirkby Fruit Project (KBP) are creating a banner for us to use at future events..”
