TWO Ryedale PCSOs have stopped a local resident from being conned out of £7,000.

A spokesperson for North Yorkshire Police said: "The woman had received a telephone call claiming to be from the National Crime Agency.

"They told her that £500 had been taken from her account and that she was to go to her local bank and transfer £7,000, in to an account with details they had provided her with, so that they could track where the £500 had gone. As it was getting late in the day the caller put extra pressure on by saying that the bank would be closing soon.

"Lucky she decided to call in at Pickering Police Station and spoke to PCSO SIMPSON and PCSO HUGILL, who were able to tell her it was a scam and then took further steps with the bank to protect her account."

Anyone who has concerns can contact police on 101.
