North Yorlshire Police said the driver of the lorry had died.

The collision happened on the northbound carriageway at junction 50 near Baldersby at 7am. One of the vehicles burst into flames following the collision.

A spokeswoman for North Yorkshire Police said: "The collision occurred between an articulated lorry and a car transporter, which were both travelling northbound. Sadly the driver of the articulated lorry died at the scene. Police are not yet in a position to release his identity.

"Officers from the Major Collision Investigation Team are appealing for any witnesses who were travelling along that section of the road, who saw either vehicle prior to the collision, or anyone who may have captured dash cam footage to contact them.
