A TRACTOR run which is set to trundle through the villages of southern Ryedale this weekend will be raising money for Yorkshire Air Ambulance (YAA).

The Wold Valley Tractor Run will start out at Manor Farm in Wintringham at 10am on Sunday, May 27.

This will be the annual event’s seventh year.

Organiser Paul Hudson said that tractor numbers will be limited to about 80 to 100, with only machines made pre-2000 allowed in order to keep numbers slightly more manageable than in previous years.

Tractor owners can give £15 to enter - with entries closing tomorrow (Thursday).

He added that they will be collecting for the YAA.

He said: “If people want to come out and give us a wave there will be people going round the villages with collection buckets.”

The tractors will pass through the following places at these approximate times: Thorpe Bassett at 10.25, Birdsall at 10.55, Burythorpe at 11.25, Leavening at 11.35 and Thixendale at 12.05.

After lunch the run will continue to Wharram, at 2.10, Duggleby at 2.15, Kirby Grindalythe at 2.45 and then back to Wintringham at 3.30.

Burton Roofing, established by the late Peter Burton, are sponsoring, and will

be awarding prizes of a bottle of whisky and a shield for the best tractor on the day.

Sponsorship will also come from Robert Croft Transport Ltd and food will be provided to the participants by Rose Cottage.

It was in Mr Burton’s memory that last year the tractor run chose Macmillan Cancer Support and raised more than £5,000.

Mr Hudson said: “Mr Burton was really supportive of the run and his family are still really supportive.

“Every year we’ve done it for a different charity - we keep swapping around.”

He said that YAA was chosen because so many in the rural farming community have needed its services.

“We’ve had the YAA come out here before and friends have had it as well.

“It’s a really good charity to raise money for.”
