POLICE are appealing for information after a bird of prey was shot on the northernmost edge of the North York Moors.
An appeal from Cleveland Police issued through the rural alert service said that at some point on Friday, May 4, between 1pm and 6pm, a buzzard was shot near to Lockwood Beck Reservoir in East Cleveland.
They said that the bird "received serious wounds to its legs and unfortunately had to be put to sleep by a local vet".
According to the RSPB, buzzards are protected under the Wildlife and Countryside Act 1981.
Police are now appealing for anyone who may have been in the area at the time and seen people or vehicles acting suspiciously.
