PUPILS at St Mary’s RC School in Malton are getting into the spirit of this summer’s World Cup by cycling more than 2,000 miles.
All Key Stage 2 children, and adults in school, are cycling the equivalent distance of Malton to Moscow on exercise bikes to celebrate the football tournament.
Deputy head Julie Kirton said: “We have cycled more than 400 miles so far and pupils are doing 10 minutes at a time to complete their daily cycle.
“As the bikes are too big for Key Stage 1 children, we are going to invite them bring in their own bikes to cycle around the playground. The Year 6 children will find out how many circuits equal a mile. Hopefully we will have no problem covering the 2,000 miles before the World Cup.”
