RYEDALE Carers Support have celebrated the fifth anniversary of their “Songs and Scones” monthly event.

The charity runs the event in partnership with Live Music Now, a charity that enables young musicians to learn new skills by delivering interactive musical performances in community settings.

Alongside the continued support of Ryedale Community Transport, the charity provides door-to-door transport to ensure even the most isolated people are able to attend the event, that includes live musical performances from talented young musicians, followed by tea, cake and of course scones.

Carol Stevens, co-ordinator at Ryedale Carers Support, is responsible for organising the monthly event and has seen it grown significantly in the two years that she has been working for the charity, with over 70 people attending many of the events.

She said: “We’ve found that people really enjoy it and for some of the people that attend it is the only time they get out of the house.

“The fact that the transport comes to the house and picks them up and they are helped into the event matters a lot to them.”
