PRODUCTION has increased tenfold at a Ryedale artisan gelato manufacturer following a move to new premises.

Groovy Moo has taken on a new production facility in Malton as it expands in a bid to meet growing demand from wholesale customers and consumers.

The new premises in Showfield Lane have increased the company’s cold storage facilities from seven cubic metres to 70 cubic metres and includes state-of-the-art equipment.

Moving production from Groovy Moo’s Malton store will also enable the company to add a dedicated area serving a range of new desserts.

The gelato company has now appointed York-based accountancy firm Garbutt + Elliott to provide accountancy services and business advice to support Groovy Moo’s future growth plans.

Ashley Smith, operation manager at Groovy Moo, said: “Our products are in high demand and the relocation to the new premises will ensure we can meet the demands from wholesale customers and our retail customers in Malton and Howden.

“The facility will also allow us to expand the products we offer at our Malton parlour and create space for a dedicated area, serving a wide range of desserts.

“We are excited by what the future holds and we have appointed Garbutt + Elliott to help us achieve our aims.

“Matt Grant and his team came highly recommended and we have been impressed by their proactive approach, which has opened up new avenues to help us continue our growth and fulfil our plans for further expansion.”

Groovy Moo was launched in 2015 in Malton by Michelle Walker and her son Ashley Smith, and in April 2017 they opened a second parlour in Howden, East Yorkshire.

The business is now looking to expand its headcount to 15 staff across its Malton and Howden outlets and production facility.

Garbutt + Elliott partner and food and drink specialist Mr Grant said: “We are pleased to have been appointed at this exciting time for Groovy Moo and look forward to helping Michelle and Ashley grow their business.

“We are sure the new production facility in Malton and the addition of new products will be a resounding success and Groovy Moo will continue its impressive success.”
