FINAL plans for 140 new homes for Malton are set to be decided on by the district council.

The planning applications for phases two and three of The Showfield development, in Pasture Lane in the north of the town, were submitted in late-March.

Planning permission in principle was already given to the development in 2015; the new applications are so-called reserved matters applications, for details that weren’t submitted at the time.

The planning documents for phases two and three said: “It is the design team’s intention to promote local character”, and they added that “the proposals will generate a new place that aims to meet the needs of the new community and its future generations”.

The design team added that the dwellings meet “high architectural standards” with “logistical pedestrian and vehicle movements”.

The 140 new builds will bring the total new homes on the site, including the 174 phase one homes currently being constructed, to 314. As well as the houses, the application includes plans for the construction of an earth bund to the site’s eastern and northern boundaries, planted with trees, to block out noise from traffic on the A64.

The housing development, first mooted several years ago, was part of an interlinked package of proposals, which planned to provide for the relocation of Malton’s livestock market to a new agri-business centre and business park on land next to Eden Camp.

The development, by Linden Homes, is adjacent to another new housing development of 263 homes by Taylor Wimpy at Broughton Manor.

The decision on the reserved matters for the new homes will be made at a Ryedale District Council planning committee meeting at a later date.

The determination deadline for the application is in July.
