A CHORAL concert has raised more than £1,500 for Yorkshire Cancer Research with a concert at the Milton Rooms in Malton.

The Chanticleer Singers performed a concert of songs from film and theatre entitled Curtain Up! last month. The programme included a variety of pieces, from compositions by Rodgers and Hammerstein to Colours of the Wind from the Disney animated film Pocahontas.

Jane Sturmheit conducted the choir and Paul Laidlaw ably accompanied, having taken over as accompanist for the evening at very short notice. Soloists were Ed Sturmheit and Carl Lindsley.

The concert was sponsored by Ellis Patents of Rillington so all the proceeds from ticket sales and the raffle went to Yorkshire Cancer Research.

Rosemary Goodwin, one of the singers, said: “There was a lovely atmosphere at the concert with both the capacity audience and the choir enjoying the evening’s music making and fundraising.”
