NEW specialist recycling banks have been installed in Ryedale to enable residents to dispose of plastic lined paper cups and cartons.

The scheme, launched by the Alliance for Beverage Cartons and the Environment and Ryedale District Council, will mean people in Malton can recycle cups from coffee shops and other outlets.

Malton MP Kevin Hollinrake welcomed the project.

He said: “I’m delighted to support this new scheme to recycle coffee cups through council waste collections, creating a market for second-life recyclable material.

“I think we need to do everything we can to change our throwaway habits and recycle as much as we can.

“Local residents have always responded well to the different recycling schemes implemented, and we hope that they will take full advantage of this new service.”

The products will be recycled at a facility in Halifax.

Carton and paper cup recycling is now available at Wentworth Street car park in Malton, Eastgate car park in Pickering, Kirkbymoorside Primary School, St Nicholas Street car park in Norton and Cleveland Way car park in Helmsley.
