CAPTAIN Brendan Anglim of Ampleforth College has been recognised for his dedication to the cadets by Her Majesty’s Lord-Lieutenant, Barry Dodd.

The Lord-Lieutenant’s award is given to reservists and adult volunteers who go above and beyond their remit to provide outstanding service over a period of time.

Major Miles Blackford, contingent commander at Ampleforth College CCF, said: “An inspirational leader, sound administrator and astute tactician, Captain Anglim is the epitome of a consummate Xadet Force adult volunteer. He espouses the British Army’s core values and has done so in his current role for fourteen years.”

Capt Anglim, a teacher at Ampleforth, said: “I have always tried to include my volunteer work in my life; coaching orienteering, mentoring other teachers and working with cadets are all hugely rewarding experiences. I’m honoured but also slightly embarrassed at this formal recognition; I feel that we should all be volunteering our time to others in some way or another.”

Five nominees from across North Yorkshire attended the ceremony at Worsley Barracks.
