HELMSLEY Walled Garden is opening early this spring.

The attraction will open on Monday, March 26, ahead of the Easter weekend.

A spokesman for the garden said: “It’s been an interesting winter and the weather has kept us on our toes, but we’re looking forward to opening and welcoming our visitors back to the garden and showing them what’s new.”

Helmsley Walled Garden is a 250-year-old garden, restored from dereliction and brought back to life by a group of staff and volunteers. The garden is also a social enterprise using tourism to fund its horticultural therapy programme working with vulnerable adults with a variety of disabilities.

Tricia Harris, marketing manager said: “The recent poor weather isn’t daunting the volunteer team at the garden either.

“We’ve been busy all winter working in all areas of the garden with our brilliant band of volunteers.

“They are currently working in the garden; on the maintenance side they are building new planters, decorating and refurbishing the plant benches in the plant centre and the front of house team is busy getting the shop ready.

“As the new season starts there are lots of opportunities for people to join us and help make a difference.”

The garden reopens Monday, March 26 and is open every day, from 10am to 5pm, through until October 31. Entry is £7.50 for adults, free for children under 16.

A master class on how to sharpen hand tools will be held on Thursday, March 26.

To find out more about volunteering at Helmsley Walled Garden, a volunteer open day is being held on Tuesday, April 10.
