£2.5m new health centre at Kimberlow Hill opens its doors

Unity Health’s centre at Kimberlow Hill, near Heslington, will take patients who used to go to a surgery on the University of York campus and others who used another surgery in Hull Road, both of which have closed.

Reception teams and clinicians from the two sites have moved to the 10,500sq ft new complex, which features a dedicated phlebotomy room for taking blood, a suite of rooms fitted to a standard for on-the-day minor surgery procedures and 16 clinical consulting rooms.

It also has a 50-seater seminar room available for community use, a 57-seat waiting room with four patient check in screens and three patient call screens and dedicated patient car parking.

Louise Johnston, managing partner at Unity Health, said it was proud to have the "newest and most up to date primary healthcare centre in York".

She said: “We are really pleased to offer our patients this amazing facility which we have been building up to for some time.

“Not only will it improve our patient environment significantly, but it will make our working lives so much better, creating the best clinical space to see and treat our 24,000 patients.”

A spokeswoman said that for appointments, patients should continue to book online at www.unityhealth.info, and the surgery’s phone numbers remained the same.

She said people who worked in York but didn’t live in the area could still register there, and could then use the service during their working week and still be registered at their home GP if they needed to be seen urgently at home, adding that this was part of the new NHS contract.

“It will be much more convenient for people who work in York to pop into Unity Health before or after work for their appointments.”

She added that opening times were from 8am to 8pm Monday to Thursday, from 8am to 6pm on Fridays and from 9am to 1pm on Saturdays, and patients could visit the new centre during an open event due to be held between 1pm and 3pm on Saturday April 7.
