A WOMAN who celebrated turning 100 last week has always said that “laughter is the best medicine”.

Florence Edith Hone - known as Peggy - was born in Paddington in London on March 14, 1918.

She was one of seven children, with four sisters and two brothers.

According to her daughter Diana they were a close-knit family who enjoyed big family get-togethers with laughter, songs and dance.

Peggy was married to her late husband Leslie in 1941.

The couple had three children, six grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.

Peggy and Leslie were a very close couple who enjoyed travel both at home and abroad. During their retirement, they lived in Cyprus for some 12 years.

Peggy has now lived at Rivermead Care Home for nine years where she has been very happy.

Diana said that she will always say “keep smiling”.

“Her sense of humour derived from her London upbringing. She always said, for any worries or troubles, ‘laughter is the best medicine’.”

Peggy celebrated with a party in the home surrounded by her family and friends, along with a visit from Isla the pony.
