RYEDALE Family History Group has announced the winner of the 2017 short story competition.
The title for the competition, which was open to members of the group, was "When the bomb dropped" and was won by Dorinda Cass, who received a lifetime membership to the group.
Dorinda wrote a fictionalised account based on the experiences of her mother and aunt during the bombings in the Second World War over York.
She said: “I am thrilled to win the competition. The memories of that terrible night and following day are very significant and poignant. I joined the family history group in 2016 and with their help have traced my ancestors back to 1720.”
