FIREFIGHTERS were called to three house fires yesterday.

Crews were called at 6.44am to Captain Cooks Close in Staithes to reports of a fire in the kitchen of a mid-terraced house. It involved a piece of wooden worktop which had been placed on top of a hob. It caused scorch marks to the wooden worktop only.

A spokesman for the fire service said the cause was accidental and crews carried out an inspection using a thermal imaging camera.

Just after noon, two crews from Scarborough were called to a semi-detached house in Hillside Gardens in the town to deal with an oven fire.

The fire caused damage to a quantity of newspaper and smoke damage to the kitchen.

A spokesman said the cause was accidental due to combustibles placed in oven. Crews extinguished using a bucket of sand.

At about 1.52pm, a crew from Filey were called to Church Street to reports of an electrical socket on fire in a residential property.

Damage was limited to the socket. The cause is believed to be fat splashing on to the socket. A thermal imaging camera was used for inspection only.
