AN increased police presence has been reported in Malton and Norton this afternoon.
Armed police and patrols, as well has police dogs are understood to be in the two towns, in view of a funeral at St Mary's Church in Old Malton.
A police spokeswoman said: "Members of the public may have noticed an increased police presence in the Malton area today.
“This is to support the local Neighbourhood Policing Team with a funeral that is taking place in the town where a large number of guests, vehicles and a long cortege are expected.
“Officers are on hand to ensure traffic continues to move freely through the town and to minimise disruption to local people.
“The event is expected to continue for the rest of the day.”
